Ulrich spotlights different pathways each Wednesday in conjunction with our Pathway Spirit Day. Encourage your student to wear a college shirt on Wednesdays, a branch of service, or any other future-readiness pathway they may wish to explore of feel pride in. Today we celebrate Mr. Torres, 6th grade Math teacher.

Mr. Torres chose the University of Houston because it offers many top tier college programs and its tuition costs are less compared to other universities. He began his college journey in New York where he took some basic college courses at Nassau Community College before transferring to the University of Houston(UH). Attending a community college before transferring to UH lessened his education expenses. After doing some research and considering various universities, he decide that UH was the best fit for him. One interesting fact he found out while researching the University of Houston is that the school is considered one of themost diverse universities in the United States.

While attending UH, Mr Torres had his own apartment and worked a part-time job. He says, “Balancing studies and work taught me to be responsible.” He also learned very important job skills while earning his BBA degree in Finance.

Not only is University of Houston one of the top universities in Texas, but it is also in the heart of downtown Houston. Mr. Torres says Houston has a very diverse economy and has more job opportunities for recent graduates. UH maintains a network with major, Houston-area companies that regularly recruit interns and employees.
